RT Rolling Coal is only the second foal his dam has had and she is 22 years old. She was so good and fun to ride on the ranch that she never got bred until she was 20 years old. She was very cowy, had a lot of go, and was fun to rope off of. Rolling Coal looks to me like a perfect heel/calf/breakaway horse with his short back, big hip, and clean neck that comes up out of his shoulders the way you want one to. The pedigree on Rolling Coal is really interesting because it combines elite modern cutting/cow-horse blood on the top with a strong Two Eyed Jack/Hancock foundation on the bottom. That gives him a broader pedigree than a straight cutting-bred horse.
RT Rolling Coal is by Catty Rey, whose pedigree is one of the strongest parts of this horse. Catty Rey himself was an NCHA performer, with $8,513 in earnings and 6 AQHA points, including being a semifinalist at the NCHA Open Derby and a finalist at the Augusta 4-Year-Old Open Futurity. Catty Rey has proven himself as a producer with several offspring that have exceled in the rope horse futurities and at the PRCA rodeos.
Rather than being bred exclusively for the cutting pen, RT Rolling Coal has the pedigree to make sense as a versatile rope, ranch and performance horse. The Catty Rey side brings the cow, athleticism, stop and responsiveness, while the Two Eyed Jack/Hancock side adds the kind of foundation breeders often want for bone, durability, using ability and versatility.
